Bengkel ISO 17025:2005

Kuala Terengganu – 28 – 29 December 2010, the ECER-KPT-UniSZA Centre of Excellence, under the auspices of the Community Development and Service Centre, organised a workshop on ISO 17025:2005 at the Permai Inn Hotel in Kuala Terengganu.

The objective of the workshop is to provide awareness and understanding about ISO 17025:2005. The 2-day workshop was officiated by Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research & Innovation), Prof.Dr.Abdul Manaf Ali who is also the Coordinator for ECER-KPT-UniSZA Centre of Excellence. The workshop was held between 9 am and 5pm. The workshop schedule included seminars, discussions, group training and question-and-answer session with the ISO consultant, Mrs Michelle Bernadette Nunis dari QTox Consulting.

Seramai 28 orang peserta telah menghadiri bengkel tersebut. Peserta terdiri daripada Pegawai Sains, Penolong Pegawai Sains, Juruteknologi Makmal Perubatan dan Pegawai Dietetik dari Fakulti Pertanian dan Bioteknologi (FPB), Fakulti Teknologi Makanan (FTM) dan Fakulti Perubatan & Sains Kesihatan (FPSK).

Menerusi bengkel ini, para peserta akan lebih memahami keperluan standad ISO 17025:2005 yang akan diterapkan di Makmal terutamanya di bawah Pusat Kecemerlangan ECER-KPT-UniSZA iaitu Makmal Halal dan Makmal Herba dibawah kelolalaan Pusat Halal Wilayah dan Pusat Penyelidikan Herba  dan Bioteknologi. Akreditasi makmal adalah penting bagi UniSZA untuk mendapat  pengiktirafan kepada  keputusan analisa sampel yang di hantar ke makmal-makmal adalah mengikut piawaian yang ditentukan.

Center for Training and Research Livestock Industry(COE Livestock)

The latest partnership between UMK and ECER is the establishment of Centre for Livestock in which its primary role is to develop the livestock industry via training and research, especially in the East Coast Economic Region.

Some of the objectives of this Centre are;

(i)    support livestock projects in ECER,

(ii)    provide consulting, training and information services to farmers and other stakeholders, and

(iii)    to be a Referral Centre for expertise in livestock genetic development and issues pertaining to livestock productivity and health.

Several activities have been planned for 2011 that are related to development of goat farming in ECER. This includes training courses in livestock economy, goat farming disease and control, goat feeding and forum to find improvements in local goat herding and farming management.

This Centre of Excellence is tasked to improve the capacity of local farmers in particular to achieve 35% self sustaining capabilities in the production of goat meat commodity by 2020.  This can be achieved through UMK and ECER’s partnership, alongwith other related government agencies.

“Kids Camp” at Agropolitan Kelantan Selatan

Gua Musang – A total of 25 participants from among the family of Gua Musang Agropolitan paticipated in the recent Sinar ECER  ‘Kids Camp’ 2010 Programme which was held at the project site Agropolitan Kg.Rantau Manis, Gua Musang.Program which took place on 26 to October 27, 2010 is for 2 days  was organized by the East Coast Economic Region Development Council (ECERDC) and Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK). During the ongoing ‘Kids Camp’, the participants were taught how to improve communication skills through orientation activities and increase the ability to work as a team in the activities’ team-building ‘. In addition, motivational talks were held in an effort to encourage participants to explore their potential and seize new opportunities in the field of education.Objective of the programme are to enhance academic excellence and develop the mindset of the participants while to form their personality .This programme also to empower the participants with self-management skills, creative thinking and ability to communicate.

KUALA LUMPUR A Terengganu-based university has been appointed as the East Coast Economic Region’s (ECER) regional centre for halal products to help Malaysian businessmen penetrate the RM6 6 trillion global halal market.

Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin will provide guidance and support to businesses wanting to tap the halal market including providing fully equipped halal and herbal laboratories for ingredient and composition testing.

The centre will also be advising small and medium enterprises SMEs under ECER in obtaining the halal certification apart from helping SME food producers enhance food safety and the quality of halal products, including food, cosmetics and medical supplies to be marketed globally.

Additionally it will help in the marketing branding and packaging of products as well as providing research and development services and training support.

In a statement yesterday ECER Development Council of which the regional centre comes under said the halal industry continued to be one of the fastest growing markets.
“The new centre will help local manufacturers in developing high quality, halal-certified products in line with the New Economic Model,” said the council’s chief executive officer Datuk Jebasingam Issace John.
